Caused Widespread Choice American Rise Rp Education Act

Front What caused the rise of RP?
Back The Education Act of 1870 caused widespread uniformity of language, with not just a standardisation of reading and writing, but also of pronunciation.
The choice of the BBC to use RP as its uniform mode of pronunciation also lead to widespread standardisation. They went through a similar process as American channels did, before settling on the Midwest accent as their choice. This has led to the belief that Midwesterners have 'perfect' American English, when in actual fact, it was a choice made by a television network.
