Ghost Progeny Fourth Apparition Ghostly Kings Banquo Secure

Text
The fourth apparition
The eight ghostly kings followed by the Ghost of Banquo secure for Macbeth that his worst fears will be realised: he has no progeny and therefore his kingship is futile.
Furthermore, the appearance of Banquo's ghost highlights Macbeth's betrayal and immorality
Banquo, who is revealed as a foil to Macbeth, standing for moral good in the play, it is his whose children will continue the royal line.
Notably, James 1st would have been watching the play and the mirror would have been directed at him - establishing him as the rightful king of England and Scotland.
Moreover, it would be a nod to his actual Scottish ancestor: Banquo. Shakespear is making it clear that his loyalties lie with the present king, yet highlighting the importance of progeny in order to keep a peaceful realm.
