Theories of Attitudes

Functional Attitudes Theory:

-ego-defense component - protect our self esteem or justify actions we know are wrong
-Adaptive component - acceptance if socially acceptable attitudes are expressed
-ego expressive component - allows us to communicate and solidify our self-identity; wearing jersey of sports team
-knowledge component - organization to thoughts; politically involved will vote in upcoming election

Elaboration Likelihood model - how much individuals question information 

-Peripheral route processing - catchphrases & slogans, appearance
-Central route processing - deep thinking scrutinize information

Social cognitive theory - people learn how to behave by observing the behavior of others 
-Behaviorism + Observational learning
-triadic reciprocal causation::Bandura - looks at behavior, personal factors, and environment in determining how someone behave
