In metaphase I of meiosis, homologous pairs align at the metaphase plate, each attaching to a separate spindle fiber. Anaphase I sees homologous pairs separating (disjunction) towards opposite poles. Telophase I results in new nuclear membranes forming around each set of chromosomes, which still consist of two sister chromatids.
Text | Meiosis: During metaphase I homologous pairs(tetrads) align at the metaphase plate, & each pair attaches to a separate spindle fiber by its kinetochore. During anaphase I, homologous pairs separate and are pulled to opposite poles of the cell in a process called disjunction During disjunction, the homologous chromosomes of fraternal/material separate & either chromosome can end up in either daughter cell the separating of two homologous chromosomes is called segregation Meiosis: During the period of interkinesis, the chromosomes may partially uncoil Meiosis: during telophase I a nuclear membrane forms around each new nucleus & each chromosome still consists of two sister chromatids joined at the centromere; haploid |
