EHEC (Enterohemorrhagic E. coli) can cause Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) and bloody diarrhea, even without other symptoms. Sorbitol MacConkey agar is used to differentiate EHEC from other E. coli strains because EHEC does not ferment sorbitol.
