Polio Vaccine Salk Sabin Booster  Vs Major Differences

The Salk vaccine (IPV) uses killed virus and is given IM, while the Sabin vaccine (OPV) uses live attenuated virus, administered orally, inducing mucosal IgA to block transmission; however, the Sabin vaccine can revert to virulent forms.

Salk (IPV) aşısı ölü virüs içerir ve IM yolla uygulanır, Sabin (OPV) aşısı ise canlı zayıflatılmış virüs içerir, oral yolla verilir ve mukozal IgA yanıtı ile bulaşıcı engeller; Sabin aşısı virülansına geri dönebilir.

Front Salk® vs. Sabin® polio vaccines

What are the major differences?
Back

Salk®
Killed viral vaccines
Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV)
IM injection
Require booster

vs.

Sabin®
Live attenuated vaccine

Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV)

↑mucosal IgA interrupts mucosal transmission
(feco-oral route)

Better immune response
(humoral|CMI)

Can revert back to wild type virus

Requires no booster
