Shigella is a Gram-negative, oxidase-negative, lactose-negative, and H2S-negative bacterium that invades M cells in Peyer's patches, causing dysentery.

Shigella es una bacteria Gram-negativa, oxidasa-negativa, lactosa-negativa y H2S-negativa que causa disentería. Invade las células M en las placas de Peyer, lo que lleva a la inflamación y ulceración del colon. Esto resulta en diarrea sanguinolenta y tenesmo.
