Enzyme Ionization Effect Ph Activity Slight Change Amino

Slight pH changes can temporarily inactivate enzymes by altering enzyme and substrate ionization, while extreme changes cause denaturation by breaking ionic bonds.

Front Effect of pH on enzyme activity
Back A slight change in pH:
• Causes ionization of amino acids of enzyme, so enzyme becomes inactive temporarily.
• Also affects ionization of substrate.

Extreme changes cause *ionic* bond-breakage and denaturation of proteins.
