Gene Balloon Therapy Coronary Artery Angioplasty Procedure Solution

In coronary angioplasty, gene therapy involves coating a balloon catheter with a plasmid containing vascular endothelial growth factor to promote new blood vessel growth, counteracting artery re-closure. This has shown promise in at least one patient.

Back When a balloon catheter is used to open up a closed artery, it tends to close up once again.

The balloon is coated with a *plasmid* containing a gene for *vascular endothelial growth factor* which promotes the proliferation of blood vessels to bypass the obstructed area.

This method has been observed in at least one patient.
