Adrenal Release Fight Flight Hypo Ns Hormones Stress

Front What detects threat? outline hypothalamus role and describe what happens during fight or flight
Back
  • Threat detected by ANS. hypo communicates with sympathetic NS (uses neuronal pathways) and adrenal-cortex system (uses hormones), and combines effects result in fight or flight response
  • sympatheic NS sends impulses to glands/smooth muscles and tells adrenal medulla to release adrenaline and noradrenaline (stress hormones), release of longer term stress hormones from adrenal cortex, hypo stimulates pituitary to secrete ACTH which travels in blood to adrenal cortex (activating release of stress hormones)
