Alveoli Air Surface Layer Thin Elastic Structure 3.1.1(c

This card details the structure of alveoli, including their thin walls, elastic fibers, and fluid lining that facilitates gas diffusion.

Tato karta podrobně popisuje strukturu plicních sklípků (alveoli), včetně jejich tenkých stěn, elastických vláken a povrchu pokrytého tekutinou, která podporuje difúzi plynů.

Front Alveoli structure 3.1.1(c)
Back - tiny air sacs in lungs (main gas exchange surface in lungs)

- consists of layer of thin flattened epithelial cells, collagen and elastic fibers (EF allows alveoli to stretch as air enters, and squeeze air out) which is elastic recoil

- inner surface covered in thin layer of solution of water, salts and lung surfactant (keeps alveoli inflated), the O2 diffuses in the water before diffusing into blood
