Dna Base Repeated Types Regions Introns Pairs Number
Front |
chromosones DNA types and regions within these types |
Back |
- chromosomes made up of DNA base pairs, small fraction are exons (genes that code for protein) and most introns (non-coding regions of DNA removed from mRNA before translation
- within introns are satelite DNA (short sequences of DNA repeated many times), at minisatellite (region), sequence of 20-50 base pairs repeated 50 - hundreds of times (also known as variable number tandem repeats, VNTRs)
- microsatellite is region with 2-4 base pairs repeated much less (also known as short tandem repeats, STRs)
- number of repeats of mini/micro satellites differs due to different lengths of repeats inerited, so more similar satellite patterns between more closley related individuals
