Embryo Scnt Adult Form Animals Artificial Cloning Clones
Front |
artificial animal cloning (SCNT) |
Back |
- artificial twinning clones embryo but SCNT clones adult animal, forms cloned adult cell embryo (which can be split to form several identical clones)
- SCNT process
- nucleus removed from somatic cell of adult animal
- nucleus removed from mature ovum of diff female (enucleated)
- nuclei (somatic one) added to ovum (enucleated one) and mild shock stimulates fusion and division
- embryo that develops transferred to uterus of surrogate (genetically identical to derived somatic cell, but mitochondrial DNA from egg cell)
- known as reproductive cloning as live animals result
- SCNT can be used in pharming (forming GM animals that form therapeutic human proteins in milk) and to form GM animals that grow organs used in transplants
