Enzymes Cheaper Immobalised Expensive Easily Advantages Disadvantages Reused
Front |
advantages and disadvantages of immobalised enzymes |
Back |
advantages;
- reused so cheaper (immobalised enzymes held stationary so recovered and reused)
- less downstream processing (as easily seperated from reactants/products and doesnt contaminate product) so cheaper
- greater temp tolerance (denatures less easily in heat and have wider range of optimum temps, so cheaper to run bioreactor)
disadvantages;
- less efficient (rate of activity lower)
- higher initial cost of raw materials (immobalised more expensive but enzymes dont need replacing frequently)
- bioreactor expensive (immobalised need more expensive bioreactors rather than typical fermentors)
