Initial 1st Wave Depolarisation Stimuli Region Depolarising Triggers

An initial stimulus triggers an action potential in a sensory receptor, depolarizing the first region of the membrane. This depolarization then acts as a stimulus for the adjacent region, creating a wave of depolarization along the axon.

Front initial stimuli, depolarising 1st region, wave of depolarisation
Back initial stimuli triggers action potential in sensory receptor, 1st region of membrane now depolarised, (this acts as stimuli for next region depolarising), process continues along axon forming wave of depolarisation
