The light-harvesting system, composed of chlorophyll b, carotenoids, and xanthophylls embedded in the thylakoid membrane, along with other pigments and proteins, absorbs light energy of various wavelengths and efficiently transfers it to the reaction centers where chlorophyll a is located.
