Plant Tissue Culture Medium Hormones Outline Steps Micropropagation
Front |
Outline the steps in micropropagation of a plant |
Back |
- Take some tissue from the shoots or roots of a plant (meristematic)
- Sterilised the sample (prevent the plant tissue from becoming contaminated with bacteria or fungi)
- Place the explant (material being removed from parent plant) in sterile culture medium containing plant hormones which stimulate mitosis
- Mass of undifferentiated cells (callus) is divided and put into new culture medium (with hormones and nutrients) which stimulates plantlet growth
