The knee-jerk reflex is triggered by tapping the patellar tendon, causing the extensor muscles in the thigh to contract and flexor muscles to relax, resulting in the leg kicking out.
El reflejo rotuliano se desencadena al golpear el tendón rotuliano, lo que hace que los músculos extensores del muslo se contraigan y los flexores se relajen, provocando la patada de la pierna.
Front | knee-jerk reflex |
---|---|
Back | once patella (below knee-cap) tapped, the patella tendons stretch, acting as stimuli for reflex arc resulting in extensor muscles in upper thigh to contract, at same time, relay neurones inhibit motor neurone to flexor muscle (relaxes), coordination of contraction and relaxation causes leg to kick out |
