Rq Lipids Measured Respirometer Rq=Co2 Formed/O2 Consumed 6o2

Front RQ
Back - measured using respirometer, RQ=CO2 formed/O2 consumed

- 6O2 molecules completely respire 1 glucose molecule, forming 6CO2 and RQ=1

- lipids contain more C-H bonds than carbs, sp form more ATP, but also require more O2 to break down and release less CO2, so RQ of lipids less than 1, carbs=1, proteins=0.9 and lipids=0.7, RQ usually between 0.8 and 0.9 but if larger 1 anaerobic is occuring

- protein not ever likley to be substrate (so if 0.9 may put down as carb substrate)
