Seed Gibberellins Evidence Role Embryo Food Stores Gib

Seed germination occurs when the seed absorbs water, activating the embryo to produce gibberellins. These hormones stimulate enzymes that break down food reserves, providing energy for growth and emergence. ABA antagonizes gibberellins, with their relative levels controlling germination. Evidence for gibberellins' role comes from experiments showing that mutant seeds or gibberellin synthesis inhibitors prevent germination, which can be restored by adding gibberellins externally.

La germinación de la semilla requiere la absorción de agua para activar el embrión, que produce giberelinas. Estas promueven la producción de enzimas para descomponer las reservas de alimento, proporcionando energía para el crecimiento y la ruptura de la cubierta de la semilla. El ABA actúa como antagonista, y los niveles relativos de ambas hormonas regulan la germinación.     • if mutant seeds (that dont code for gibberellins) or gib biosynthesis inhibitors applied (gibs not made), seed doesnt germinate, and do so once gib added externally
