Tracheae Chitin Gas Tracheoles Insects 3.1.1(f Tubes Carrying

This card explains the insect tracheal system, including tracheae (chitin-lined tubes) and narrower tracheoles (without chitin), which serve as the primary sites for gas exchange.

Tato karta popisuje tracheální systém hmyzu, včetně trachejí (trubice s chitinovou výstelkou) a užších tracheol (bez chitinu), které jsou hlavním místem výměny plynů.

Front Tracheae In insects 3.1.1(f)
Back - Tracheae (Tubes carrying air into body) lead away from spiracles

- lined with chitin (withstand external pressure, but impermeable to gas so little gas exchange)

- they branch (forming narrower tubes) until dividing into tracheoles (single elongated cells without chitin lining, so freely permeable)

- tracheoles spread throughout tissues (running between individual cells), and is the site of most gasous exchange
