Back depolarisation only occurs at nodes (no myelin present), where Na+ passes through protein channels in membrane, localised circuits form between adjacent nodes, where action pots jump between nodes (saltatory conduction), faster than unmyelinated where theres a wave of depolarisation (the more protein channels opened for movement of ions, slower the process)
