High unempleyment- Women hit hard. many lost their jobs when Red army demobilized. forced to moved from skilled to unskilled work. many jobless, unsupported women on the streets

Housing- overcrowded, poor quality houses and flats

Crime problems- parentless and rootles young people formed gangs which roamed the streets
