저는 Adjectives 아/어하다 Verbs I Describing Psychological States

Front -아/어하다
Back Verbs derived from adjectives
Notes -아/어하다 attaches to adjective stems to form verbs. Such transformation is applicable to certain kinds of adjectives and has two distinct usages. There is no similar principle to be found in English grammar.

The addition of -아/어하다 to adjectives describing cognitive or psychological states (emotions / attitudes / feelings) produces verbs depicting active expressions of these states (hateful → to hate). These verbs are used instead of adjectives they derive from when describing the third-person's psychological state.

좋다 → 좋아하다
good → to like
싫다 → 싫어하다
hateful → to hate
부끄럽다 → 부끄러워하다
shameful → to be ashamed
아프다 → 아파하다
painful → to feel a pain
덥다 → 더워하다
hot → to feel the heat
기쁘다 → 기뻐하다
joyful →  (someone else) is glad
-고 싶다 → -고 싶어하다
to want → (someone else) wants

Adjectives describing psychological states can be transformed into verbs that denote active expression of corresponding feelings or attitudes. The addition of -아/어하다 allows such transformation.

저는 콜라가 좋아요. → 저는 콜라를 좋아해요.
For me, Coke is good. → I like Coke.
저는 사장이 미워요. → 저는 사장을 미워해요.
For me, my boss is hateful. → I hate my boss.
저는 친구가 부러워요. → 저는 친구를 부러워해요.
I am jealous of my friend. → I envy my friend.
