Notes The contrast connective principle -아/어도 attaches to verbs and adjectives and generally translates as 'even if' or 'regardless of/whether'.

In two-clause expressions 'A아/어도 B', the situation B is expected to occur regardless of the action or state described in the clause A. The A clause often expresses a supposition, i.e., a hypothetical situation.

-아/어도 indicates that the situation in the first clause is recognized, and that a contradictory truth is denoted in the second clause. If this contradictory truth is intended to be more significant in comparison to the content of the first clause, the emphasized contrast meaning of -아/어도 translates as 'even though'.

-아/어도 can occur affixed by tense markers. However, the tense is more commonly expressed in the second clause.
