Notes -(으)려면 is a short version of the -(으)려고 하면 structure where -(으)려고 하- expresses intention and -(으)면 conveys the meaning of conditional 'if'. -(으)려면 has the meaning of 'if you want to' or 'if your intention is to'. -(으)려면 attaches to verb stems.

With -(으)려면 marking intentions or plans denoted in the first clause, the second clause describes the condition required to fulfill those plans. Conditions or methods in the second clause are commonly expressed with -아/어야 하/되-, -(으)면 되-, -(으)세요, -이/가 필요하-, -는 게 좋-, and similar principles.

-(으)려면 is often pronounced (and can even occur written) with extra ㄹ as -(으)ㄹ려면.
