| Notes | -(으)려고 하- is used to express established intentions or plans that have yet to be acted upon. The -(으)려고 part is the intentive principle conveying the literal meaning 'with the intention to ...'. The 하- ('do') part can be replaced with 그러- ('like that'). The initial -(으)려고 하- principle can occur shortened by dropping its 하-/그러- or -고 parts. I am going to buy a car next year. 내년에 차를 사려고 해요. [full] 내년에 차를 사려고 그래요. [full] 내년에 차를 사려고. [하- dropped, intimate] 내년에 차를 사려고요. [하- dropped, informal polite] 내년에 차를 사려 해요. [-고 dropped, informal polite] 내년에 차를 사렵니다. [고- and 하- dropped, formal polite] -(으)려고 하- cannot be used to describe plans and intentions formed in the time of speaking. Sudden intentions can be expressed with -(으)ㄹ게 or -겠-. In colloquial speech, the -(으)려고 part can be pronounced as -(으)ㄹ려고. It is also possible to find it written this way. |
