Notes The 위하다 verb has the meaning of 'to do for the sake of'. The -기 위하- principle attaches to verbs and corresponds to 'for the sake of', '(in order) to', or 'for'. The noun modifier -기 in -기 위하- cannot be preceded by tense modifiers. The -을/를 위하- principle is used after nouns.

When used in sentences, -기 위하- and -을/를 위하- occur followed by -아/어 or -아/어서 principles, or by the -(으)ㄴ modifier.
