Michael 은/는 Subjects Mentioned Marked 마이클이 왜 아직

Front 마이클이 왜 아직 오지 않았는지 알고 있어요? 마이클은 교통 사고를 당했어요
Back Do you know why Michael hasn't come yet? Michael had a car accident
Notes While -은/는 can be used with any noun or phrase, it is most commonly used to topicalize subjects like the -이/가 particle. The speaker should pay attention to use the topic marker only with subjects that have already been mentioned earlier. A new subject is marked with -이/가; if this subject is mentioned later, it should come marked with -은/는 as a pre-established topic.
