Power Focus Objective Coarse Stage Slide Lens Adjust

Front Explain how to use a light microscope to view a specimen at low and high powers.
Back Using light microscope at lower power
  • Use coarse focus knob to give a maximum distance between stage and LP objective
  • Place a slide on the stage, as centrally over hole as possible
  • Switch power on, adjust brightness
  • Use coarse focus to move objective to as close to the slide as possible without smashing it
  • Now its safe to look thru eyepiece lens
  • Adjust illumimnation if needed, use coarse focus to slowly increase distance as you look thru
  • Use fine focus once you an see something to sharpen image
  • Move stage and/or slide around if needed

Changing to high power lens
  • Make sure there is something to see at center of your FOV - higher power lens covers smaller area of slide
  • Adjust brightness if needed
  • Look from side and move stage away from objective lens using coarse focus
  • Swing higher power objective into place
  • Repeat as if using lower power
  • Work your way up through objective lenses from lowest to highest magn so you can see specimen
