Rate Substrate Increasing Increases Concentration Explain Affects Initial

Front Explain how increasing the substrate concentration affects the initial rate of an enzyme-controlled reaction.
Back Increasing substrate concentration:
  • As substrate concentration increases, rate of successful colisions between substrate and enzyme increases
  • This increases the rate of formation of ES complexes
  • Therefore, rate increases
  • Rate stops increasing when all of the active sites are occupied
  • At this point substrate is no longer limiting and increasing conc will not affect rate (Vmax)
