  • Measure volume of CO2 produced & O2 used in given time (ideally using sensors), calculate RQ
  • There may be an alternative explanation because an organism can be respiring a mix of things at once & this RQ calculation is the average for all cells
  • RQ can also be greater than 1 if anaerobic respiration
