Tracheal Fluid Exercise Oxygen Describe Activity Volume Tracheoles

During exercise, lactic acid in insect tissues draws fluid out of tracheoles, increasing the surface area for greater oxygen uptake to meet increased demand.

Durante el ejercicio, el ácido láctico en los tejidos de los insectos atrae líquido fuera de los traqueolas, aumentando el área de superficie para una mayor absorción de oxígeno y satisfaciendo la creciente demanda de oxígeno.

Front Describe how activity changes the volume of tracheal fluid in tracheoles and explain the value of this occurring.
Back Exercise and tracheal fluid:
  • Lactic acid from anaerobic respiration builds up in the tissues
  • This draws fluid out, exposing greater surface area for more oxygen uptake into body cells
  • Important bc exercise means oxygen demand increases
