Alveoli Describe Features Lungs Make Effective Organs Exchange

The lungs are effective gas exchange organs due to numerous alveoli providing a large surface area; alveoli are one cell thick with good blood supply to maintain a concentration gradient; and elastic tissue allows alveoli to stretch and recoil for expiration.

Front Describe the features of the lungs that make them effective organs for the exchange of gases. (5)
Back Lots of alveoli produce a large surface area
The alveoli are 1 cell thick and therefore thin
Good blood supply to the alveoli to carry dissolved gases
Contains elastin tissue to prevent alveoli from bursting and stretches and recoils to expel air during expiration.
