Bei Asthmatikern führt die erneute Exposition gegenüber einem Allergen zu einer IgE-vermittelten Aktivierung von Mastzellen. In der frühen Phase dieser Reaktion kommt es zur Freisetzung von vorab gebildeten Histamingranula und zur Bildung von Leukotrienen C4, D4 und E4, die zu Bronchokonstriktion, Entzündung und Ödemen führen.
