The Prime Minister appoints the other ministers, who are responsible for particular areas of policy. The Prime Minister and other senior ministers together form the Cabinet. The policies of the government are debated and approved by Parliament, which consists of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. There are about 650 elected Members of Parliament (or MPs) in the House of Commons. In the United States, the head of the government is the President, who appoints the members of his administration. Policies are debated and approved by Congress, which consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Members of the House of Representatives are known as congressmen, congresswomen, or congresspeople, and members of the Senate are called senators.
