Active transport is the movement of particles against a concentration gradient, requiring energy from respiration, such as nutrient absorption in the gut.

Back | The movement of particles across a membrane against the concentration gradient (low concentration to high concentration) using energy from respiration. For example, in the digestive system where sometimes the concentration of nutrients in the gut is lower than in the blood but it still passes to the blood to stop us from starving. |
