Front | REQUIRED PRACTICAL : Investigating osmosis using potatoes |
---|---|
Back | 1. Prepare sucrose solutions of different concentrations (pure water -> very concentrated sucrose solution) 2. Cut a potato into the same sized pieces (1cm in diameter, all from the same potato) 3. Divide pieces into groups of 3 and measure the mass of each group. 4. Place one group in each solution for at least 40 minutes (make sure they all get the same amount of time) 5. Remove the pieces and dry gently to remove surface excess water to allow for more accurate measurement of final mass. 6. Weigh each group again and record results. 7. The only thing that should change in this experiment is the sucrose solution concentration. |
