Deep Back Muscles Contraction Lateral Bending Including Erector

Front Deep back muscles
Back (Including erector spinae)

Structure: found deep in the back adjacent to spinous processes, typically have longitudinal fiber direction

Innervation: dorsal rami of spinal nerves

Function:
1. Shortening contraction for extension, rotation, and lateral bending of vertebral column and head
2. Lengthening contraction of anti-gravity muscles to control flexion and lateral bending
