Back Structure: muscles that attach to edges of adjacent ribs within the intercostal space, becoming membranous lateral to the sternum.

Fiber direction: anteroinferior (hands-in-pockets)

Innervation: intercostal nerves

Function: elevate ribs during normal inspiration
