Front Dermis
Back Structure: deeper layer of skin formed of dense connective tissue. Contains:
a) collagen & elastic fibers
b) blood & lymphatic vessels
c) nerves
d) sebaceous (waxy) and sweat glands
e) hair follicles and arrector pilli muscles

Innervation: cutaneous nerves containing
1. somatosensory fibers
2. symp/post fibers innervating sweat glands, arrector pilli muscles, and smooth muscles in walls of blood vessels

Function: provide a strong layer of skin, bring vasculature and neurons close to epidermis, sweating, etc.
