Left Atrium Blood Ventricle Atrioventricular Valve Av Bicuspid

Front Left atrioventricular valve
Back (AV, bicuspid, mitral valve)

Structure: the connection between the left atrium and ventricle, formed by two cusps attached to the cardiac skeleton and connected to the ventricular wall by papillary muscles

Function:
1. open during diastole to allow blood to flow from the left atria into the ventricle
2. close during systole to prevent backflow of blood from left ventricle into left atrium
