Wall Target Organ Heart Parasympathetic Post Ganglionic Neurons Structure

Front Parasympathetic post-ganglionic neurons
Back Structure: very short 2nd neuron in two-neuron efferent system. Have cell bodies within the wall of the target organ.

Pathway:
1. Wall of organ
2. Glands and smooth muscle of organ wall
***No parasympathetics to body wall

Function: provide "rest and digest" innervation to target structures
a) esophagus - mucous gland secretion and peristalysis
b) heart - decrease heart rate
c) bronchi - constriction
d) coronary arteries - vasoconstriction
