Hormonal signaling, specifically adrenaline from the adrenal glands, can sustain an increased heart rate.

Hormonal signaling, primarily through adrenaline released by the adrenal glands, can cause a sustained increase in heart rate by activating similar chemical pathways as noradrenaline.
