Surface Barriers Preventing Entry Pathogens Body Skin Dry

The skin prevents pathogen entry with its dry, thick, dead outer cell layer, and antimicrobial secretions that lower pH.

The skin acts as a surface barrier against pathogens through its dry, thick, dead outer layer, antimicrobial secretions from sebaceous glands (fatty and lactic acids lowering pH), and tough cellular structure.
