Surface Barriers Preventing Entry Pathogens Body Mucous Membranes

Mucous membranes protect internal structures with antimicrobial secretions and physical mechanisms like cilia to remove pathogens.

Mucous membranes protect internal structures by secreting fluids containing lysozyme to wash away pathogens, and cilia in the respiratory tract help move trapped pathogens out.

Front surface barriers preventing the entry of pathogens into the body - mucous membranes
Back protects internal structures, thin region of living surface cells releasing fluids to wash away pathogens, secretions contain lysozyme (cause cell lysis), cilia in nasopharynx
