2′-O-methyltransferase (MTase) is an enzyme that transfers a methyl group to the 2′ hydroxyl of the first and second ribose groups in mRNA. Viruses that acquire this enzyme can produce cap-1 and cap-2 on their transcripts and thereby evade restriction by IFIT1.
