Window Velocity Hair Cells Pitch Frequency Oval Ear

Text
Inner Ear Physiology:

1) Round window of Cochlea - allows perilymph to move within the cochlea
2) saccule - Vertical velocity
3) utricle - Horizontal velocity
4) otoliths - Accelerometer; modified hair cells
5) semicircular canals - rotational acceleration
6) vestibulocochlear nerve - carries electrical signal from OoC to CNS
7) Tonotopically organized - location of hair cells vibrating gives brain pitch of sound
8) Low frequency pitches - away from oval window
9) High frequency pitch - close to oval window
