Diplotene Dissolution Synaptonemal Complex Begins Homologous Chromosomes Separate

In the diplotene stage, the synaptonemal complex begins to dissolve, homologous chromosomes start to separate except at crossover sites, and this stage can last for months or years in some vertebrates.
