In most sexually reproducing organisms, gametes are morphologically distinct and called heterogametes, with the male gamete being the antherozoid or sperm, and the female gamete being the egg or ovum.
Nella maggior parte degli organismi a riproduzione sessuale, i gameti prodotti sono di due tipi morfologicamente distinti (eterogameti). In tali organismi il gamete maschile è chiamato Anterozoide o spermatozoo e il gamete femminile è chiamato ovulo.
